Wow. Wow... The last post makes me feel as if it was written years ago. OChem is over. Winter break is nearing its end. So much happened these last few weeks since finals finished that it's not possible to explain and reflect on all that's happened. Suddenly, it feels as if those who were not with me during these past few weeks have become distant and those that were with me, well, our bonds have somewhat strengthened, but I still feel a divide. Without further ado I'll start with the moment I finished my OChem final.

This is the first thing I see as soon as I get home from my OChem final. My dad and a hispanic worker had already started tearing off the rotting plywood from our balcony. Reason being....

...a leak in our living room roof. It was finally time to fix the leaking problem, and it all traced back to a faulty balcony flooring.

Some of the wood cutting machinery I learned to use.

These pencils are a must for construction work.

As night approaches we lighting became very important. Praise God there was no rain. Definitely a miracle. End of day 1. The real work would begin the next day. No time to rest.
DAY 2

The problem was that the flooring was uneven. In this picture you can see the different colors of wood on top of the support beams. My dad and I had to measure and cut out beams that were leveled so that when the new plywood was placed we would get a nice even surface. No creaks and no pooling of water in one spot.

Leveling tool and a green wood shaver were key to helping us do this once we measured and cut out a correct piece of wood to be added on top of the beam.

For those of you that remember, Diego's window door would not open. I remember my dad using all of his strength to open it and he ended up breaking the handle. This is the reason why. The wall on the left side of this picture sank along with the plywood because the pipe directly underneath would get super hot when taking showers. This means the wood rots quickly. Uneven flooring made it impossible for the door to slide out. Oh, and we ended up replacing all of the window doors and frames as well. For now, that's it. More later!
